We’ve seen in recent time what can happen when a business critical system is outsourced to be managed by a third party. Although this might serve as a caution to some businesses, the idea of outsourcing support and maintenance of your applications should not be completely discarded.
“One of the greatest challenges with support is disaster recovery,” commented Kareem Tawansi, CEO of software development vendor, Solentive Software.
“It is one of those things that is difficult to test without the occurrence of the actual disaster you are trying to recover from.”
Kareem continued, “I think when choosing to either outsource or “insource” critical systems, it is imperative to test the lines of communication in advance and to make sure those responsible for system up-time are highly aligned with key business drivers.
“If you’re dealing with a collaborative outsource partner, I believe you are likely to get as good, if not better, service compared to an in-house team.
“Again, it’s about relationship and communication – if you can get that right, outsourcing can be a more efficient option.”
