Nine years on and £2.7 billion later, Britain’s new electronic healthcare system is still nowhere near completion. So what can software vendors and their clients do to ensure projects stay within budget and are delivered on time?

“Software development projects often miss their mark for reasons that are not technical. Indeed, technical bugs play a very small part in the failure of software development projects,” remarked Kareem Tawansi, CEO of software development provider, Solentive Software.

“The underlying factors for success lie in a strong user-base engagement early on in the venture combined with quality communication between the vendor and client.

“As a general rule, it is good practice to roll-out a system in increments – with small viable components. This reduces the risk and facilitates insightful conversation early on in the development. This form of development is in fact, an underlying concept of the Agile Software Development Methodology,” commented Kareem.
