From the new Clarius Labs release: XamlBinding Custom Tool This custom tool will generate a partial class file implementing INotifyPropertyChange as well as a strongly-typed event for each property declared in the file it's applied to. This is very useful when creating models or entities that are used in data-binding scenarios, and where an associated presenter needs to perform certain logic when a given property changes. Communicating through these strong-typed events prevents tight coupling between the presenter and the UI, which now communicate exclusively through the model/data context....

I remember the switch to VS 2003 and then again to VS2005. With each move there was a wait to have the latest framework approved to go into the IT stack. When you get a taste of the latest improvements in the IDE, you want them now, not 6 months from now. I have been playing with the latest beta for a while now and I see the new features and once again, I want them now. There are a host of new improvements that have nothing to do with the 3.5 framework. The web designer and CSS support are far superior to what we have today. If you've heard of Web Expression, then you know that Microsoft has brought us a world class web designer. It's no surprise that much of that has made its way into VS 2008. We now have split view editing and a CSS style manager. Those of us who love IntelliSense will appreciate the fact that we now have that feature down to the CSS level. If you write JavaScript and miss the rich debugging experience we have with C# and VB.Net then you will love the debugging and IntelliSense improvements. To be able to type . and get full IntelliSense on our own JavaScript objects is a dream come true for many JavaScript developers. We also have AJAX support build right in to the IDE now.
With all of these features, we again could be in the same boat as with previous releases. That does not have to be the case anymore with the Multi-Targeting feature. Everything I mentioned so far has nothing to do with the latest framework but everything to do with IDE enhancements. We can now tell the IDE to target the 2.0 framework, just open an existing project and choose not to migrate it. You can always go back later on and change the target framework. The downside for those who are still on 1.1, this doesn’t go back any further then the 2.0 framework, at least for now.
Having experienced programming in Eclipse and Visual Studio I can tell you the productivity gap is expanding. Hats off to the Visual Studio team!

I believe that as you age in the software development business, you start realizing that there is very little new in the world. This means that for someone like me who doesn't read very fast and has kids who need shoes, the desire to go out and purchase a new 60 dollar book about the latest technology wanes somewhat. The problem is that half the book is philosophy and half the other half is basic stuff I already knew anyway. Culling through a myriad magazine and internet articles presents the same problem though admittedly without the expense. The authors are often not interesting enough to really keep my attention and the subject matter is frequently a rehash. I long for a diagram that shows me the lay of the land and allows me to just pick out what I want to learn, learn it and move on at my own pace and in my own direction.
This from the guy who wants to write professionally...
The MOSS technologies are really a jump forward in my opinion for MS. They offer integration points that "the smart people" are still trying to get their minds around and the products are useful right out of the box. Its like having your own Transformer! What I'm hearing from a lot of people on my team and others, though, is that the ability to actually dig in and code against this beast is limited by documentation. I have to admit, before this morning I got more information from blogs and forums than from any technical articles or books.
HINT: MOSS and Sharepoint are lumped under Office in MSDN!!
So I dug around the Office area of MSDN for about 11 seconds and found the Microsoft Office Interactive Developer Map. This is a really cool, easy to follow WPF application! It's available via ClickOnce and gives me both the overview I need to constantly review where I am and the details to let me dig into a piece within context.
I reallly hope that similar applications are put forth from MS for Visual Studio Team Systems, Exchange, SQL Server and some of the other platforms that have a very high knowledge entry bar.
